In a heartfelt gesture of remembrance and community spirit, Woodspring Lodge No. 8791 has donated £250 to the Cystic Fibrosis Comfort Fund (CFCF), a charity with deep ties to the Lodge and its members.
The Comfort Fund, a registered Bristol-based charity, was founded in 1991 following a generous bequest from a grandfather whose only wish was that the money be used to bring joy and comfort to those living with Cystic Fibrosis. Ever since, the Fund has been a beacon of support, offering practical help and small moments of happiness to individuals and families affected by CF.
The donation was presented during Woodspring Lodge’s final meeting of the year on Friday, 16th May, during a “white table” event at the festive board. The evening was made all the more special by the presence of Mr. Andy Stone, ambassador for the CFCF, and Mrs. Helen Forrow, daughter of the late Mrs. Mary Burridge.
Mary, the partner of Worshipful Brother Alan Carter, Director of Ceremonies at Woodspring Lodge, passed away over the Christmas period in 2024 after a period of illness. A cherished member of the Lodge community, Mary was known for her warm presence and dedicated involvement in Masonic social events. She is deeply missed.
Her connection to the Cystic Fibrosis Comfort Fund ran deep — she had served as both a trustee and treasurer of the charity, giving her time and energy with great passion. To honour her memory, the Lodge felt it was only fitting to support the charity she held so dear.
The £250 cheque was presented by Worshipful Master Simon Riley and Brother Alan Carter to Mr. Andy Stone, with Mary’s daughter Helen and her husband also in attendance.
Mr. Stone gave a short but moving speech, expressing heartfelt thanks on behalf of the CFCF and reaffirming the importance of continued community support.
